近年来，雅思考试适用范围已突破了英联邦国家的范畴，获得美国超过1500所院校和机构的认可，雅思网站的调查结果显示：2010 US News & World Report上排名前133的学校中有126所接受雅思成绩，占总数的94.74%。虽
然这个现况看起来很乐观，但其实实情是这样的，在这些学校中，有些大学只是本科认可或者研究生认可雅思成绩，而还有的大学只是部分的学院接受雅思成绩。这样就会让申请人失去很多选择性。
第二，美国大学对于雅思成绩要求较高
从美国各个大学的录取要求来看，排名前50的学校不论是本科还是研究生录取对于雅思成绩的要求还是比较高的，一般都需要达到7分以上。而通常对于写作要求较高的专业例如传媒专业，法学专业至少需要达到雅思7.5分，各大商学院也如此。而哥伦比亚大学一些专业甚至需要申请者达到8.5分的雅思成绩。而申请普通的美国大学本科通常需要雅思6.0，研究生至少要6.5分以上。
这里还有一个例子：从学校的录取要求我们可以看出，一般雅思的7分相当于托福的100分，但是申请的结果往往是学校会优先录取托福100分的申请者，因此可见美国大学是更认可托福考试成绩的。
综上所述，雅思也可用于美国大学申请，但申请人应关注所报学校各个专业的具体要求，以及学生本人的具体情况，看哪种考试更能发挥自己的强项。不过如果决定申
请美国大学，建议大家还是选择参加托福考试。毕竟在未来不短的时间内，托福仍将是美国大学语言考试的主流。
